INCH GARVIE Inch Garvie Inchgarvie His [History] of Dunfermline (Chalmers) 3/4 of a mile SE [South East] by South of Northcliff A small rocky island, situated in the centre of the Firth of Forth, between North & South Queensferry. It is very steep, except on the western part, where it slopes a little. There are the ruins of a small house and fort still to be seen on it.
“In the Regency of Albany, during the minority of James 5th, Inch Garvey seems to have been employed as a State prison – Chalmers’ His [History] of Dunfermline.
There is a well of fresh water at the east end of this island, considered good for household purposes
