At the end of the three houses on Port Laing beach is this small plaque to George Paton.

George was born in Belgrano, Buenos Aires, Argentina on 13 Sep 1894, to a Scottish father and Argentinian mother. He came to Scotland to enlist shortly after the outbreak of war.

On 20th June 1916, he picked up a badly thrown grenade during a training exercise, warned his men of the danger, and tried to throw it away. Sadly he died in the attempt.

At the centenary of his death, on 20 June 2016, this memorial plaque was unveiled at Port Laing by Vesta Darnell (2nd Cousin of Paton) in the presence of representatives of 2SCOTS, Regimental Association, North Queensferry School and local people.

Other fallen from both World Wars are commemorated on the The Village War Memorial
