A few minutes after Pohle crossed the Scottish coastline Storp led his three Ju88s, his crewmen fully alert to the threat from fighters, across the coastline high over the intended landmark of Berwick-on-Tweed. Five minutes later, with his navigator continuing to confirm identification of navigational points en route, they passed to the north of Lauder and a further seven or eight minutes saw them pass over the area to the north of Gladhouse Reservoir.
Far off to the right he spotted the Firth of Forth which he allowed his eyes to follow until he spotted the top of the spans of the Forth Bridge. The weather conditions were still good with puffs of broken cloud at approximately 4.000 feet but clear visibility otherwise.
