Ruins of a Castle Ruins of a
“Castle”
Ruins of a Castle Mr Pringle, Ferry Barns 5/8 mile SE [South East] of North Queensferry A small building on the Island of Inch Garvie, understood, by the persons whose names are quoted in the Column for Authorities, to have been erected in the Reign of James IV, and to have been subsequently used as a State prison – being at that time fortified. It was repaired and mounted with cannon during the late war. It also was repaired at the time “Paul Jones” appeared in the Firth. From that time the buildings and Battery were allowed to go to ruin. The guns which were there have been long since removed.
The House or Castle as it is called, is in a very ruinous state. The most part of the roof having fallen in lately. The Battery is in better preservation and has a modern appearance.
