CARLINKNOWES QUARRY (Whinstone) Carlinknowes Quarry (Whinstone) Carlin Knowes Quarry Mr Pringle 3/8 of a mile east of Northcliff An extensive whinstone Quarry, situated on the west side of the Ferry Hills. Large quantities of building and pav [paving] stones are exported to different places. There are two small piers built for the purpose of loading boats at the quarry.
