Queen Elizabeth I
Elizabeth never married, so on her death in 1603, the English crown passed to her closest relative, the great-grandson of Margaret Tudor and James V of Scotland. Margaret Tudor was the eldest daughter and second child of King Henry VII of England and Elizabeth of York, and the sister of King Henry VIII of England.
This great-grandson was James VI of Scotland, so in 1603 he became James I of England – James I & VI – in the Union of the Crowns.
It would seem that this Union would finally end the centuries of Anglo-Scots border wars.
