Andrew’s father worked as a Butcher and soon after he was born the family moved to Dunfermline.

The family lived at various locations in Dunfermline; 9 Pittencrieff Street, 46 Chalmers Street and finally 83 James Street. Andrew followed in his father’s footsteps also becoming a Butcher.

In the 1901 census he is still recorded as living at home with his parents at 83 James Street in Dunfermline.

At the time of his enlistment, Andrew was living in Rosyth.

He served originally in the Royal Scots as Pvt. 300982.
At some point he transferred to the 7th/8th Battalion the Kings Own Scottish Borderers.

The battalion were part of 46th Brigade serving in the 15th (Scottish) Division. His battalion took part in the Third Battle of Ypres which began on the 31st July 1917.

In August 1917, they took part in the Battle of Pilkem Ridge, North East of Ypres in Belgium. It was during this period that Andrew was killed in action.
