In 1928, as Dunfermline Golf Club prepared to vacate the Ferryhills, a local group in Inverkeithing and North Queensferry proposed to create a new Ferry Hills Golf Club.

GOLF
NEW FERRYHILLS CLUB PROJECT.

There is at the present time a movement on foot at North Queensferry and Inverkeithing to establish a golf club with a view to taking over the Ferryhills Golf course when it is vacated by the present occupiers the Dunfermline Golf Club, who are removing to a new course at Torryburn. The proposal to form a new club, which it is intended to designate as the Ferryhills Golf Club, had been well received. A provisional committee of which Dr Brock is chairman, is in charge of the preliminary negotiations, and so far a fair amount of success has attended their initial efforts. It is intended to call two public meetings shortly – one in North Queensferry, and one in Inverkeithing, in order to explain the present position to these interested in the project. A canvass is being made of prospective members to form a loan fund to meet the initial outlay for implements, etc. and if the necessary financial support is forthcoming there is little doubt that the new club will be firmly established in the spring. The support of the Tilbury Contracting and Dredging Co. (Ltd), who are proprietors of the major part of the ground, and the local manager, Mr Millar, has been invaluable, and it is largely through the assistance received from the company that the project has been made possible. Mr Thomas B Crookes, “Oakfield” North Queensferry, is acting honorary secretary. It is hoped to be able to start the club without imposing an entry fee.

A provisional committee was established, chaired by Dr Brock of Garth Hill, North Queensferry, and they held their first AGM in February 1929, in the Masonic Hall, Inverkeithing when about 70 members attended.

A vote was taken on the question of allowing Sunday golf, and it was unanimously decided to open the course for play on Sundays.

The Secretary reported that four-fifths of the Loan fund had already been subscribed, and that the membership was exceedingly promising.

The club was established, took over the course and planned some minor improvements to the course in 1931.
