By 1914, the minefield had been replaced by several sets of anti-submarine nets and surface booms, and new gun batteries were constructed on shore at Downing Point, Hound Point and Braefoot, and on Inchcolm, Inchmickery and Cramond Island.
On August 4th 1914, Great Britain declared war on Germany.
